The
Hangleton Community Minibus
The
Hangleton community Minibus is open for use by all community and
voluntary Sector organisations across Brighton and Hove although
priority is given to groups in the Hangleton, Knoll and Portslade
areas. The bus was purchased with funds from Scottish Power and
Brighton & Hove City Council in 2000 and has done relatively
few miles, so is in good condition. the bellow topics give you all
the information you will need to know if you intend to drive the
minibus.
The
Minibus Its Self
The
minibus has 16 seats including the driver. Two
seats can be removed to allow two wheel chairs to be secured in
the minibus as there is a wheel chair lift in the back of the minibus.
It is a Mercedes Sprinter 411CDI and measures 6.6m long, 2m in width
and is 2.7m high.
Law
on Being able to drive mini busses
This
is a complicated issue so if you are unsure about the law after
reading the below points please contact the centre manager.
To
be able to drive the minibus, drivers must have the category D1
entitlement on their drivers licence, which they will not have if
they passed their test after the 1st January 1997. If they passed
their test before 1997 they will have this D1 entitlement automatically.
However they will have needed to have stated that they wished to
have kept the D1 entitlement when their driving licence was renewed
and provided the DVLA with a medical form.
Having this entitlement will enable groups to pay or reward the
driver.
If
they passed their test after 1st January 1997 they either need to
have a MiDAS (Minibus Drivers Awareness Scheme) certificate available
through the Local Community Transport Association, or have passed
a DVLA test that gives you D1 entitlement for PSV's or HGV's.
The driver will also need to demonstrate your experience of driving
larger vehicles through a CV or references, you may have driven
vans or industrial vehicles, any kind of experience like this is
ok as long as you can prove it.
However they will not be able to be paid or receive any reward their
service. It is ILLEAGLE to do so. If they only have D1 entitlement
and no extra certification they will be able to legally drive the
minibus but will still need to provide a statement of driving experiences.
We
always suggest drivers have a go at driving the bus before any journeys
with passengers take place or where there is a long journey involved.
We will not let just anybody drive the minibus and will need to
proof of the above!!!
