About Hangleton Community Centre
Hangleton Community Centre has lots of different functions
and means something different to everyone who uses the building.
It serves as a place to get information, advice, volunteer,
relax and take part in a range of activities, so whatever
your needs are, hopefully we will have something that will
benefit you.
All our activities and services are aimed at improving your
physical, social and mental wellbeing through your participation
and involvement in them, which has been designed around
local peoples needs.
The
Centre is the first point of contact for a lot of residents
looking for information or to raise issues that may be affecting
them, their neighbourhood and the community in which they
live. People are always surprised at what is available here
and the level of help and information available. Even if
we can't meet your needs or we do not have the skills or
knowledge to help, we know or can help find someone who
can.
Part of the reason the community centre is so successful, is due
to the fact that it is home to a team of Community Workers
including Community Development and Youth workers that
support residents to achieve positive change in the local
area through involvement in groups and activities where
residents are able to have a stronger voice and learn skills
which enable them to take positive action themselves.

How
we are run
Hangleton Community
Centre is a charity run independently by Hangleton Community Association,
a group of local residents who meet regularly to ensure
the Centre operates safely and effectively. The trustees discuss
issues which affect the building, the local area and local
people, so that we can ensure the groups using the Centre
and the community work team can tackle issues which do arise.
The trustees are supported by a Centre Manager
and the Community Work team to ensure they can achieve this.
Having residents involved in running the building is an
important part of ensuring the Centre is led by community
need and not dictated by those detached from the
local area. It allows us to respond to needs and changes
in the community quickly and with actions that will achieve
change.
The building is owned by Brighton & Hove City Council
which is leased to the Hangleton Community Association on
the understanding that the building remains for use by the
public. Hangleton Community Association fundraises
and ensure the centre remains well used to be able to run
services and make sure the building is maintained to the
necessary standards.
We
are always looking for new trustees and ways to raise
funds so if you want to get involved or have some ideas
then please get in contact with us.
